A book on “Civil Helicopter Industry in India” was released on 5 May’09
by Dr. SNA Zaidi DG, DGCA during the National Seminar on “Commercial
Usage of Helicopters : Prospects & Challenges” at Delhi Flying Club,
New Delhi-110003.
The book covers the vital contribution made by Civil Helicoper Industry
to the nation. It traces the history of civil helicopters in India
from November, 1953 to present day. For many years till year 2004,
the growth of civil helicopters had been sluggish for various reasons.
The economic growth of the country during the last five years has
been a catalyst in promoting the growth in aviation, both in fixed
and rotary wing aircraft. Suitable policies enunciated by the Ministry
of Civil Aviation have further helped the growth. It outlines the
details of who is operating what helicopter in the country.
The book also brings out the role a helicopter can play in mitigating
natural disaster and reiterates the point that usage of this versatile
machine for public use is unlimited. The need for developing a network
of helipads and heliports in and around metros as well as hilly and
remote parts of the country has been highlighted.
Being a part of the Helicopter Industry, we would like you to spread
the information of good work being done by the Helicopter Industry
in the growth of the Indian economy. This book will help the cause.
